With the aim to assess the contribution of universities in education and research on market economy, and propose policies on improving the role of Vietnamese universities in training and scientific research, on 4th November 2016, National Economics University organized the international conference “Education and Research on Market Economy of universities in Vietnam”.
About distinguished guests, there were Assoc Prof. Dr. Pham Van Linh – Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Assoc Prof. Dr. Pham Manh Hung – Vice Minister of Education and Training. There were also 500 representatives from international organizations such as World Bank, UNDP, JICA, KOICA, Embassy of the United States, Canada, Japan, Korea, Laos, Cambodia …
From NEU, there were Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat – President and members of NEU Board of Management, Assoc Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Ha – Chairman of University Council, and representatives of NEU units.
On that occasion, Assoc Prof. Dr. Pham Manh Hung – Vice Minister of Education and Training and Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat – NEU President formally conferred the medal “ For the course of education” for three foreign professors who had great contributrion to the course of developing education and training in Vietnam in general and National Economics in particular.
The conference included plenary session in the morning and three thematic sessions in the afternoon. At the plenary session, the participants focused on finance and governance in advanced education to improve capacity of the youth in Vietnam, response to the establishment of business schools, opportunity to make differences.
At the thematic sessions, the scholars discussed issues related to developing international collaboration in education and scientific research in universities, emerging economic and business administrative issues in the context of international integration, and training and encouraging entrepreneuship ….
Speaking at the conference, Assoc Prof. Dr. Pham Manh Hung – Vice Minister of Education and Training said that the National Economics University was the leading university in training and researching on economics, management and business administration. After “Doi moi”, Vietnam’s economy reached remarkable achievements and people’s living standard was improved step by step… However, the disadvantages of market-economy influenced significantly on socio-economic development. The Vice Minister hopes that the conference would help national agencies adjust the economic management model in the times to come.
Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat – NEU President stated that although there were many conferences about economic model in Vietnam, it was the first international conference attracting a lot of scholars and research institutes to submit papers in order to assess the period 30 years of “Doi Moi”. The final results would be sent to the Central Economic Committee to consult the Minister about economic innovation in the future.
At the conference, the scholars asserted that since different traditional culture and geography, market-economy model in Vietnam differed from market-economy model in other countries. In order to ensure the socio-economic development, it required high quality human resources and innovative management policies towards market mechanism. A part from social responsibilities, Vietnamese universities might be considered as businesses and providing higher education might be considered as a type of business.
The international conference “Education and Research on Market Economy of universities in Vietnam” received 60 qualified articles, including 13 articles of foreign researchers.
