Recently, the delegation of the National Economics University led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, Vice President, visited, worked, and coordinated to organize an international conference with ADBI - Asian Development Bank Institute at ADBI headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.
Also attending the delegation was Prof. Dr. To Trung Thanh - Head of Research Management Department; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ho Dinh Bao - Head of Personnel Department; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thi Bich Chi - Head of Finance and Accounting Department; Dr. Dao Thanh Tung - Head of International Cooperation Department; along with the University's experts and scientists were invited to attend and present at the conference (with sponsorship from ADBI). In addition, the conference also had the participation of ADBI experts, international authors, and experts from Asian countries such as Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bhutan, Pakistan, India...
The 2024 international conference with the theme "Policy Lessons for the Post-COVID-19 Recovery" was co-organized by the two sides on March 7 - 8, 2024, at ADBI, Tokyo, Japan.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. Tetsushi Sonobe - Director of ADBI, was pleased to say that for the first time, ADBI coordinated with the National Economics University to organize an international conference discussing socio-economic issues in many different countries and share lessons from the Covid-19 pandemic as well as issues in post-pandemic recovery.

Next, in the opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, Vice President of National Economics University, welcomed the scientists and speakers participating in the conference and thanked ADBI for accepting the invitation to co-organize this conference. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong emphasized that the research and discussions presented at the conference will provide many perspectives on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the post-pandemic recovery in countries with different economic and institutional conditions.

The conference opened with a presentation by two speakers: Dr. Jonathan Pincus - International expert of the United Nations Development Program UNDP in Vietnam and Professor of Fulbright University Vietnam, with the topic of macroeconomic lessons during the Covid-19 pandemic and the experiences of Vietnam. The presentation shows the rapid changes in Asian and world economies due to the pandemic and the fiscal and monetary policy responses of countries to maintain the economy as well as increasing support for population groups and businesses... affected by the pandemic.
Next, the conference was organized into 06 thematic sessions and 01 round table discussion session. 06 thematic sessions include session 1 on macroeconomic issues under the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic; session 2 on the impact of the pandemic and the response of governments to trade flows in the ASEAN region; session 3 on activities and support from the government during the pandemic to the activities of businesses and some manufacturing industries; session 4 on digital economic issues in the context of the pandemic; session 5 on small and medium-sized enterprises as a group accounting for a very high proportion in the business system in Asian countries and session 6 on the impact of Covid-19 on the health and welfare of people and family.

During the roundtable discussion, the topic of digital transformation in small and medium-sized enterprises in Asian countries was discussed enthusiastically, with speakers from Vietnam, Bhutan, Indonesia, and Japan providing a lot of information about the superiority and challenges of digitalization for small and medium-sized enterprises in different countries, especially the differences in fields of operation, adaptability from the perspective of human resources, finance, and infrastructure... The speakers also gave many suggestions to the delegates on the need to research this issue more deeply to be able to propose appropriate policies for each group of businesses.

According to the joint plan of NEU and ADBI, selected articles in this conference will be further adapted to be published in a special issue of JED - Journal of Economics and Development (Scopus category).

Speaking at the closing of the Conference, Dr. Dil Bahadur Rahut – ADBI, warmly congratulated the success of the conference and said that this success exceeded his expectations in the first time coordinating to organize a large international conference between the two units.
Within the framework of the Conference, NEU and ADBI came to an agreement to coordinate the organization of annual international conferences starting in 2024. In addition, the two sides also opened up opportunities for collaborative research between the two parties on economic topics of interest in the Asia-Pacific region.
