In the morning of 28th October 2020, the National Economics University organized an international conference on Taiwan Climate Change Projection Information and Adaptation Knowledge Platform (ICCSM-2020) under the Taiwan Research Project on “Strengthening Collaboration and Sharing of Research Experiences between the National Economics University, Vietnam and Taiwanese Organizations in the Field of Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management” in the period of 2017-2020 sponsored by Taiwan Ministry of Education through Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam (TECO).
Attending the conference, from TECO, there were H.E. Richard R.C.Shih - Representative of TECO, Prof. Dr. Hsu Hui Huang – Head of Department of Technology Science, Mr. Chu To Ming - Head of Education Affairs, Ms. Alice Chang – Third Secretary of Education Affairs. From other organizations and NEU, there were MA. Nguyen Tuan Anh - Vice Director of Department of Science, Education, Resource, and Environment, Ministry of Planning and Investment, Prof.Dr. Tran Tho Dat - Chairman of NEU Council, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Tho - Secretary of NEU Party Committee, Vice President together with Heads of NEU Faculties and Departments, NEU lecturers and staffs.
Opening speaking at the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Tho shared that Vietnam and Taiwan were always under the influence of natural disasters, storms and floods, then sharing experiences and exchanging knowledge between Vietnam and Taiwan on climate change and disaster risk management through joint conference would bring benefit both Vietnam and Taiwan in enhancing research capacity and strengthen the partnership between Taiwan and Vietnam. NEU Vice President said that this conference marked an important milestone to end the three-year cooperation process in the period of 2017-2020 between National Economics University and Taiwan's organizations in climate change and disaster risk management. Associate Professor Bui Duc Tho highly appreciated the results achieved by the Project and the impacts of the Project which are sustainable and have good spillover effects. Through the Project, the University's lecturers have improved their research and teaching skills on climate change and disaster risk management, the amount of research and lectures on climate change and management also increase in both quantity and quality.
At the conference, Chief Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam - Mr. Richard R.C. Shih also expects the end of the Phase 1 project to open up many opportunities for future academic connections between the National Economics University and academic institutions in Taiwan.
The conference has received great attention from scholars, researchers and managers in the field of climate change and sustainable management with 50 scientific papers submitted to the conference. Through review and editing process, 40 excellent articles have been selected for publication in the Proceedings of the International Conference.
