On the morning of 18/09/2019, National Economics University held a Seminar on ‘’Energy demand and supply outlook in the APEC region until 2050 and policy implications for Vietnam’’.
Attending the seminar, there were Mr. James Michael Kendell- Senior Vice President of Asia Pacific Energy Research Center (APERC); Mr. Edito Barcelona - Head of Department of Energy Statistics and Training APERC; Dr. Nguyen Linh Dan - researcher of APERC. From the National Economics University, there were Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat - Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the University Council; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Tho - Vice President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Duc Truong - Dean of Environmental, Climate Change and Urban Studies.
Speaking at the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Tho - Vice President thanked the experts, scientists and teachers for attending the seminar. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Tho shared that Vietnam's rapid economic growth led to a significant increase in energy demand, which is expected to triple by 2020 and eight times by 2030. To ensure that the energy supply meets the increasing demand while ensuring economic growth, energy security, environmental protection and climate change mitigation, the Government of Vietnam needs more harmonious and effective policies. Therefore, studies on energy economics in response to climate change, supply and demand forecasts and seminars shared by experts in the field of energy are extremely necessary. The Vice President hoped that the seminar provided the experts with not only an opportunity to discuss energy issues in the APEC region, but also the valuable information for appropriate policy decisions in the future. Associate Professor Tho emphasized that in the coming time, the National Economics University would promote training and research on energy economy and climate change.
Through the seminar, regulators, academia, national and international experts have the opportunity to share ideas, experiences and lessons about energy economics in dealing with climate change as well as proposing policy implications the Government needs to act towards sustainable development goals.
Earlier, Assoc.Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong - NEU President had a warm welcome and talk with Mr. James Michael Kendell - Senior Vice President of Asia Pacific Energy Research Center (APERC) . Assoc.Prof. Pham Hong Chuong shared, Energy Economics in response to climate change was one of great concerns globally and in Vietnam, so the National Economics University wished to have more opportunities to cooperate with academic and research institutions in the field of energy and climate change in the near future. NEU President hoped that Mr. James Michael Kendell and the delegates, distinguished guests would have a successful seminar at the National Economics University.
