On January 11, 2019, the National Economics University held a seminar: "Vision and strategy to implement smart urban in Vietnam" (Vietnam National Smart City) with the aim of connecting managers and businesses, experts, scientists to discuss solutions and implications for smart urban development in Vietnam.
Attending the seminar, on the side of the National Economics University, there were Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat - NEU President; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Ha - Chairman of the University Council; Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Cuong - Vice President; Associate Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong - Vice President; Prof. Dr. Dinh Duc Truong - Head of Environment and Urban Faculty; and representatives of departments, departments, institutes and centers throughout the school. For the other guests, there is Dr. Jaewon Peter Chun - Founder and CEO of XnTree Group (United Kingdom) focusing on developing smart cities, keynote speakers of the seminar; and representatives of management agencies from Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Information and Communications, Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, National Assembly Economic Committee, Central Economic Committee, Deputy Office Prime Minister, Hanoi People's Committee. The seminar also included experts from international academic, research and institutions such as Asian Development Bank (ADB); UN Habitat; Institute of Urban and Rural Planning; Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment; Irrigation university; University of Transport; University of Architecture; University of Natural Resources and Environment; Academy of Policy and Development; Vietnam Startup Organization (V-start up).
On behalf of the leaders of the National Economics University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Cuong - Vice President thanked the experts, leading enterprises in the field of Urban Planning to attend the conference "Vision and strategy to implement smart urban in Vietnam". Prof. Hoang Van Cuong affirmed: "Urbanization has been posing many opportunities and challenges in development in Vietnam. In that context, smart urban development is seen as a modern approach in urban management, towards sustainable development. Vietnam has many potentials and opportunities to develop smart urban areas, especially in the context of the industrial revolution 4.0 and the trend of international economic integration. In addition, the Vice President said: “The university highly appreciates the initiative and positive of Faculty of Environment and Urban in connecting and organizing seminars. In the coming time, the university will continue to promote teaching and research on urban management in general and smart urban areas in particular ”.
In the presentation, Dr. Peter Chun pointed out the vision and 4 core values of a future smart city such as "Dynamic City" (Dynamic Smart City) - taking people and data as a center to become sustainable economy and innovative cities sharing jobs environmentally, friendly for future technology. He pointed out the characteristics of a smart urban area such as technology trends, infrastructure and platform of the Smart City Tech Sandbox in Vietnam, and at the same time export orientations for IPM strategy to Vietnam. The speaker also gave practical examples of experiment and deployment of model of mobile marketing in developed countries in Asia, Europe in bringing global network of mobile communication cooperation. The speaker affirmed: "Vietnam currently has many advantages both in nature and socio-economy, and it is necessary to have breakthrough steps to lead the ASEAN region with innovative inventions, making Vietnam be the most worthy country to live and work ”.
Through the seminar, management agencies, businesses, civil society organizations, academia, national and international experts have the opportunity to share ideas, experiences and lessons on smart urban development, applicability in Vietnam, and proposing government policy that need to be directed towards sustainable development.
Previously, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Cuong - NEU Vice President had a warm welcome and talk with Dr. Jaewon Peter Chun - Founder and CEO of XnTree Corporation (United Kingdom). At the reception, he introduced an overview of the history of formation, development and outstanding achievements in training, scientific research and international cooperation of NEU. Also at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Cuong thanked and hoped that the distinguished guests would have a successful and interesting talk at the National Economics University.
