On 15th August 2016, Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat – President of the National Economics University had a meeting with the delegation of Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD). Attending the meeting, from AFD, there were Mr. Rémi GENEVY – Director, Mr. Romain Bony-Cisternes and Mr. Pham Duc Tung – Project staff. From NEU, there were Dr. Dong Xuan Dam – Dean of International School for Management and Economics, MA. Pham Sy Long – Deputy Director of International Cooperation Department, Dr. Pham The Anh – Faculty of Economics.
AFD is the operator for France’s bilateral development finance mechanism. It is a public industrial and commercial institution with the status of specialized financial institution. Its action is in line with the policy set out in France’s Framework Document for Development Cooperation. AFD has been entrusted with a mandate by the French national authorities to contribute to economic and social development in its geographical areas of operation. It achieves this by financing and supporting development projects and programs, participating in the debate, research and dialogue with the relevant stakeholders. The aim of these actions is to contribute to more sustainable and shared economic growth, improve living conditions in the poorest regions and countries, contribute to preserving the planet and help stabilize fragile or post-conflict countries.
Vietnam is one of the three leading beneficiaries of AFD sovereign financing. Since 1994, AFD financed projects in Vietnam with total approximately €1.617 billion. Currently, AFD was seeking for academic partners to join collaboration between AFD and Vietnam Institute for Advanced study in Mathematics (VIASM) in order to build up a macroeconomic model to Vietnam with the aim to figure out and quantify the effects of climate change on Vietnam economy and evaluate the polices on energy in Vietnam.
Mr. Rémi GENEVY highly appreciated the prestige of NEU in economic research and expressed that AFD and NEU would discuss the cooperative opportunity between two sides. On behalf of NEU, Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat thanked AFD for visting NEU and two sides had a productive meeting. The President affirmed that the metioned issue was one of concern of NEU and it had enough capacity to participate the project.
NEU is one of the leading universities in research and is the first one investigating climate change and quantifying the effects of climate change. It also establishes cooperation with French universities is the member of The Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF).
Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat hoped that NEU and AFD would keep contact and discuss in detail the cooperative areas and drafting the memorandum of understanding between two sides.
