In response to International Anti-Corruption day 9th December, on 8th December, National Economics University and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) jointly organized the thematic discussion on "Curbing Corruption in Land Admission: Case Studies and Policy Implications", capturing a lot ot national and international attention.
At the discussion, NEU researchers figured out the new approach to corruption in land admission. It is the fact that understanding on corruption in land admission is only based on regulations in effect and quite difficult to apply in projects jointly conducted by the State and businesses. Therefore, social approach helps clarify types and causes of corruption, especially in case of infrustructural development and mining projects which use national budget. The results of five projects on building new urban areas, mining, etc. pointed out differebnt types of corruption namely collusive practice and they happen at many levels. Especially, corruption among corporations and government officials is the most serious type which is difficult to tackle effectively. Many participants recommended that with social approach, policy makers could propose solutions improving accountability via competitive election, examination and administrative, increasing social participation in projects, and supervising policies compliance. Thus, these change should be put in Law on Curbing Corruption and related regulations.
That the discussion ended successfully reaffirmed the role of NEU researchers in orienting socio-economic policies. It also shows the increasingly close cooperation between NEU and international organizations.
