Dr. Nguyen Viet Cuong, Vice Dean of Institute of Public Policy and Management, National Economics University, is ranked in the top 5% greatest scientists in the world by REPEC
Dr. Nguyen Viet Cuong’s first paper in Economic Bulletin in 2008 was “Do Foreign Remittances Matter to Poverty and Inequality? Evidence from Vietnam”. After that, he had many publications in various international journals such as American Political Science Review, World Bank Economic Review, etc.
In Dr. Nguyen Viet Cuong’s opinion, cooperation is the root of success. Teamwork in research is of paramount importance to make successful, however, it is hard to keep his partners doing research until the project ends. He said that it took around 3 to 4 months or maybe longer to write an international article but the reward was not worth and the plus point to approve Prof, and Assoc. Prof was the same as one of domestic papers. However, he was optimistic because nowadays, the number of international papers in the field of economics was escalating and there were a large number of young potential scientists.
According to the latest publication of REPEC, there were two Vietnamese economists in top 5% of more than 55000 economists in the world while Dr. Nguyen Viet Cuong was the only one working in Vietnam. His most famous papers published in 2015 was “The impact of trade facilitation on poverty and inequality: Evidence from low- and middle-income countries," The Journal of International Trade & Economic Development, Taylor & Francis Journals, vol. 24(3), pages 315-340, April. Dr. Nguyen Viet Cuong had published 95 research publications and 50 scientific papers from 2002 to present.
