On the afternoon of August 8, 2022, Prof. Elizabeth Porter – Acting President, University of Washington School of Law,
USA worked at the National Economics University to exchange schemes for
international cooperation in research and training between the two
universities. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong - NEU Vice President and
representatives of leaders of the units warmly welcomed the delegation.
Attending
the meeting, concerning National Economics University, there were
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nam - Dean of Faculty of Law; Dr. Pham Sy Long
– Deputy Head of International Cooperation Department. As for University of Washington School of Law, there was Prof. Nguyen Xuan Thao - Director of Asian Law Center; with officers and specialists of the two units.
Welcoming GS. Elizabeth Porter – Acting President of University of Washington School of Law and the delegation to National Economics University for the first time, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong has given an introduction of the history,
development, strengths and achievements of NEU in recent years. Assoc.
Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong hoped that this visit would play an important
role in promoting the further development of cooperation between the
National Economics University and University of Washington School of Law with diverse new training programs fulfilling the increasing needs of learners.

Also at the meeting, Prof. Elizabeth Porter – Acting President of University of Washington School of Law gave a brief introduction about strengths of the university. Accordingly, the University of Washington and the School of Law are
both located in Seattle, where large corporations such as Boeing,
Microsoft, Amazon and a range of other technology companies were
founded. In addition, the forte of the university also lies in its
advanced training programs, highly specialized lecturers, and diverse
training majors interwoven between law and business administration, law
and technology. These are also factors that many international students
nowadays are considering when choosing a university to study.

the meeting, after an overview of training, scientific research and the
advantages of the two universities, leaders of the two units discussed
specific cooperation opportunities in the coming time, which emphasized
the promotion of cooperation in training, research, exchange of
lecturers and students related to the fields of jurisprudence and other
cooperation potentials based on mutual interests.

within the framework of the visit, Prof. Elizabeth Porter – Acting

Thao - Director of Asian Law Center gavr a series of lectures for
students of National Economics University on the topic: "Covid-19 and
the courts in the US' 'and “Fintech & Intellectual property
financing vehicles”.

the first lecture, Prof. Elizabeth Porter presented an overview of the
adjudication situation and the application of technology by US courts in
the context of the complicated and prolonged Covid-19 pandemic over the
past time. The speaker gave the introduction of some initiatives which
help increase the accessibility of the courts of the disputing parties;
the public availability of the court record; remote filing, payments,
court appearances, meeting with attorneys, attending online court
hearings. GS. Porter emphasized that nowadays remote trial by courts of
all levels has gradually become the norm in the United States.
After
that, GS. Nguyen Xuan Thao - Director of the Asian Law Center caught
the attention of attendees when gave a presentation on the difficulties
of technology startups in the US when accessing loans from credit
institutions for collateral assets relating to intellectual property
rights such as inventions, utility solutions and trademarks. The
practical use of financial instruments based on intellectual property
rights in the United States, China and South Korea can become lessons
for Vietnam in the coming time, when intellectual property increasingly
tends to be acknowledged in many different economies.
At
the lectures of US professors, the speakers had some interesting
exchanges about many highly professional questions from lecturers and a
large number of students, from faculties and institutes at NEU including
Faculty of Law; School of Banking - Finance; Smart Operations Management in English (ESOM);
Logistics and Supply Chain Management in English Integrated (LSIC) and
Profession-Oriented Higher Education – POHE, Business Law.
