On December 20, 2019, the 6th Vietnam-Taiwan Education Forum was held at the National Economics University.
Attending the forum, on the Taiwan side, there were Mr. LIO, MON-CHI - Vice Minister of Taiwan Ministry of Education; Ms. Tran Cam Linh - Deputy Chief Representative, Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Vietnam; Mr. BI, CHEU-AN - Director of International Cooperation Department, Ministry of Education of Taiwan; Mr. LIANG, HSUEH-CHENG - Deputy Director of Higher Education Department, Ministry of Education of Taiwan; Mr. CHU, TO-MING - Deputy Counselor of Education, Ministry of Education of Taiwan. From Vietnam, there was Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Minh - Deputy Director of International Cooperation Department, Ministry of Education & Training. From the National Economics University, there were Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat - Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of University Council; Assoc Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong - President.
Over the past years, the close cooperation in economic development between Vietnam and Taiwan has paved the way and laid the foundation for the comprehensive relationship between the two sides in many fields. As of June 2019, Taiwan's total investment in Vietnam reached US $ 31.9 billion, ranking the fourth among 132 countries and territories investing in Vietnam. Currently, there are more than 6,000 Taiwanese enterprises investing in Vietnam. Taiwan is among the top five markets sending tourists to Vietnam. Tourism in Taiwan and Vietnam expects the number of guests will increase sharply and reach 2 million visitors in 2019. From cultural similarities, Vietnam - Taiwan education cooperation has made strong progress in areas such as academic exchanges, joint training, and scientific research cooperation. Moreover, there are more undergraduate and postgraduate students studying at Taiwan Universities. Academic exchange conferences between Vietnamese and Taiwan universities also provide more opportunities for scientists from two countries.
On behalf of the University, Assoc Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong welcomed the delegates atteding the 6th Vietnam-Taiwan Education Forum held at National Economics University. He said that, for National Economics University, cooperation with Taiwanese partners had always paid special attention to the University’s leaders and departments. Many years ago, dozens of lecturers and staff were sent to Taiwan universities for training whereas NEU also regularly sends students to take summer courses in Taiwan. In recent years, cooperation activities with Taiwanese partners have made significant progress in terms of quantity and quantity. NEU has kept close relationships with Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam (TECO) which is a bridge for developing relationships with higher education institutions, researchers, organizations, educational institutions and businesses from Taiwan. Currently, the University has signed official cooperation agreements with more than 20 Taiwan higher education institutions. In addition, the 2 + 2 joint training programs with Asia University, Taiwan is qualified for the needs of society. The University is implementing the Research Project on "Enhancing research collaboration and experience sharing between the National Economics University in Vietnam and institutions in Taiwan on climate change and disaster risk management”. Assoc Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong hoped that through the forum, Taiwan enterprises can share experiences, promote cooperation, connect training and research cooperation in scientific research.
At the seminar, representatives of Vietnam and Taiwan presented key presentations on basic and comprehensive innovation in higher education. In addition, delegates also discussed and shared on many topics such as University autonomy; Guarantee and accreditation of the quality of higher education; Connecting businesses and schools ... with the participation of many experts in the field of education of the two countries. In particular, at this Forum, there have been many cooperation documents between the education agencies and universities and colleges of the two sides signed which is implementing close cooperation activities in the near future.
